• Jonathan David is a key player for Ligue 1 side LOSC Lille, finishing last season as the club’s top goalscorer.

  • Many consider the 22-year-old to be one of the best young attacking talents in world soccer today.

  • David is already a staple of the Canada Men’s National Soccer Team.

Born in Brooklyn, raised in Haiti and Canada, Jonathan David is proving to be one of the top breakout strikers in elite European soccer.

He’s already firing in goals on a regular basis for LOSC Lille and the Canada Men’s National Soccer Team, with some of the biggest clubs in the world said to be circling.

With such a decorated career at the age of 22, many wonder: what is Jonathan David’s net worth? Below, we seek to answer that question and explore what makes him so prized in the world of soccer.

How much is Jonathan David worth?

Jonathan David’s net worth is in the region of CA$16.8 million (€13 million), according to our estimates. This is based on an average of reliable wage reports, bonuses, sponsorship, and endorsements to date.

Discovering an exact Jonathan David net worth figure is next to impossible, but we do have some clues to go off of for the striker.

At Lille, a potentially conservative average that we found lands him CA$49,000 (€38,000) per week, or CA$2,548,000 (€1,976,000) per year across the five-year deal signed at the start of the 2020/21 season.

Over five years, this nets CA$12,740,000 (€9,880,000).

This is what we’d label as potentially conservative because many players have several bonuses and even wage increases per season included in their contracts.

Prior to Lille, for KAA Gent, an average salary of CA$16,761 (€13,000) per week or CA$871,572 (€676,000) per year for two years is a fair estimate given that he broke through the youth ranks in 2018/19 and then played full first-team soccer for 2019/20.

On top of this, we know that he signed an endorsement deal with Adidas Global via his agency, Axía Sports Management, continues to promote the brand to this day, and has collaborated with UNION Los Angeles and Shadow Lion recently.

So, we estimate that the Jonathan David net worth sum sits at about CA$16.8 million, which will undoubtedly increase in the years to come. In soccer transfer terms, the Canadian is already calculated to be worth CA$62 million (€48 million).

Early Life and Career

Truly a man of the world, Jonathan David was born in New York on January 14, 2000, moved to Haiti three months later, and then emigrated to Ottawa at 6-years-old with his parents.

In Canada, David worked his way up through youth soccer, playing for Gloucester Dragons SA, Ottawa Gloucester SC, and finally Ottawa Internationals SC before crossing the Atlantic to join KAA Gent in Belgium’s top flight.

Seven months after joining the European side, David made his first-team debut at the age of 18, scoring the final goal of the 1-1 tie.

By the end of his second season with The Buffalos, the young striker already had 37 goals and 15 assists in 83 games, with eyes across the elite leagues keeping tabs.

In need of a new striker after selling Nigerian star Victor Osimhen for close to CA$103 million (€80 million), LOSC Lille offered Gent a multi-record fee of CA$38.7 million (€30 million) for David.

At the 99-game mark for Les Dogues, the Canadian striker already had 34 goals and seven assists.

He was also instrumental in the club’s fairytale title triumph in his first season (2020/21). This year, Lille are out at +15,000 in the soccer odds to get past Paris Saint-Germain.

For Canada, David has been otherworldly. Teaming up with fellow world-class youngster Alphonso Davies, the striker had already netted 21 goals and set up 13 more by his 32nd cap.

Honours, Accolades, and Future

Jonathan David truly is a special talent, especially when you consider the history of Canadian and even US men’s soccer on the continent.

He’s already claimed the Golden Boot at the CONCACAF Gold Cup, Canada Soccer’s Player of the Year, and the Golden Shoe Award in Belgium – that was all in 2019!

With LOSC Lille, untold glory has already been earned. The historic, against-all-odds 2020/21 Ligue 1 title win (the club’s fourth) has enshrined him as a fan-favourite, being the second-highest scorer for the campaign.

It didn’t end there, though, as more silverware came his way in the 2021 Trophée des Champions – played between the winner of Ligue 1 and the winner of the Coupe de France – beating PSG 1-0 on the night in Tel Aviv, Israel.

While sports betting markets peg Canada as the underdogs of Group F at +1000, there’s always a flurry of transfers after each FIFA World Cup, and David is already being closely followed, per reports.

Even if Canada doesn’t get past the likes of Belgium and Croatia, if he puts in a good showing, not only will a bigger club likely put in a hefty bid, but the net worth Jonathan David has now will almost certainly skyrocket.

Still only 22-years-old at the time of writing, the Canadian striker has the world at his feet and continues to impress on the pitch.

It’s almost a certainty that the figure for Jonathan David’s net worth will get a considerable bump once another club convinces LOSC Lille to let their coveted forward leave.
